"great quality, not much class" 2009-12-21

I was looking for something specific when I bought this watch. I am a bit of a hard critic because when it comes to fashion I have some very specific tastes and I am not disappointed in the functional aspects of this watch.

I was looking for a classy looking, sport- capable watch and the price and features this one brings to the table just jumped out at me. The moon/ tide graph is great if you boat or spend time outdoors. The construction is very, very solid even more so than most dive watches. I would dare say it's the toughest watch I've ever held. I use it during military training courses and I have hit it against trees and metal several times and the resin case just shakes it off. I can hardly even see the marks from where I know I've hit it the most.

The disappointment is that I was looking for a nice looking watch I could wear to work, and this picture is altered to change the color. The bright blue color is one thing I really liked about it, and it does not look like that at all. It is actually a very dull navy blue and I don't see how any kind of "lighting" could have changed it so much. None the less it is a well made watch. It just doesn't look special. It has some rather deep guards around the buttons too and it is hard to press them quickly, especially without gripping the other side of the watch with another finger.

So if I could go back, I would get a different one but it is really a matter of preferences.

"Great watch from Casio but the tide chart is not dependable." 2009-12-02
By Wilson A. Valdez
The watch is a g-shock after all. This is the fourth i have owned since i got my first at age 13 from my father. I bought this watch for work, i am doing construction work along the shore and the work is tide dependent. The tide graph is not very accurate and tends to be off by an hour and a half to two.

 "Not rating this item" 2009-10-27
By Juan M. Mencia
I ordered, returned this item upon receiving, re-ordered, and again returned. I was not sent the model I wanted as shown here with the light green dial, but rather a model with the case and dial in a light brown color (titanium), which I was told in a watch selling cart at a local mall is an older now discontinued model. The catch is that the model number G9100-2 is identical. Anyway, from what I saw I was not very impressed. The watch is not as bright a blue as shown on the website, but rather a dull dark blue/violet. The light tan dial is very difficult to discern without glasses unless your eyesight is an excellent 20-20. I have to hand it to Amazon tho, they were very nice about the whole incident, was handled very expeditiously and professionally. Their attitude gave me the assurance to purchase from them a different watch makers model ( at a higher cost) which I am very happy with. The old rule still applies: Although I am not discriminating this watch in particular, you do get what you pay for........

Okay so i bought this for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves this watch. It has so many features and it is such a sturdy watch. This will probably be the last watch you need unless you want to but more colors. The only problem i had was when i ordered it they said it was in stock because i needed it by Aughust 31st. I ordered it on the 17th (5-7 business days) and it was promised to be shipped by the the 26 . Well it wasnt and i had to call and see what the problem was. Seems that it was out of stock and they wouldnt have it for anther couple of weeks. (WHich is weird because when i ordered it i made sure it was in stock) I politely told them i needed it by the 31st which by this time was in a couple of days and the women told me she could send me another color. Well as a mutual agreement i got the same blue G Shock Gulfman Tide and Moon watch except this one had pink where the white writing is. Other than that this watch is really nice. I would def purchase one for myself since he absolutely loves it.

"Great watch for the money" 2009-12-31
By M. Wood (Cambridge, Maryland)
Purchased this watch about 2 weeks ago. For the money I think its probably the best watch you can buy. I really wanted one of the Casio Waveceptors that was around $170 but I settled on this one due to price. I could not be happier. The watch looks nice and seems to perform well. The watch even has a battery indicator. It came out of the box reading medium charge. I stuck it in the window on a cloudy overcast day and now it reads Hi charge. Now that its charged it does not seem to change back to medium at all. I think it said in the manual the battery could hold a charge for 6 months from a full solar charge. Note: A solar cell in the watch charges a battery in the watch, in other words you don't have to stay out in the sun alot. As far as longetivity and reliability only time will tell, but I have a Casio Dive watch that I cannot kill--I just got tired of buying batteries so I ordered this one.

The watch has more features than I could ever ask for or remember how to use. I had to adjust the band but I just bought one of the cheap band adjusters on the site and did it myself.

Bottom line: It's not a Rolex but its Atomic and Solar. It's also attractive and costs well under $100. If your seriously considering it you probably should buy it.

"Do not buy it if you are over 20" 2009-12-27
By Parker (Texas)
The watch is very poor in usability. After owning it for weeks and reading the manual over and over, I can still not figure out how to change the date to English. It still displays the Kanji for the day and most likely will until I throw it away. The genius that designed it should change jobs and go into encryption technology. Nobody could crack his evil designs. The H-S ET setting is punishment for the user. When you select it and try to make any change, the display flashes -0 0- and never changes even if you hit the watch with a hammer. What the heck is this? I cannot believe that the designers could be so senseless and dumb. The watch keeps good time and it looks like it could withstand a nuclear blast. What it lacks in usability it has in brute ruggedness. It looks like a Buick from the 1950s only tougher. My advice is do not buy it unless you know Japanese, which I know a bit. Wait until LG or Samsung offer something better in titanium. The Japanese have totally lost their edge in design. Even my 16-year old straight-A daughter could not figure this watch out. I have 9 years of college education and this watch is just brain rocket surgery to me, not to mention incredibly bulky for my fine hands -- I had to remove five links from the bracelet to fit me. It is designed for 300-pound gorillas that cannot read Kanji nor English.

"Nice watch for the money" 2009-12-19
By D. Long (FL, USA)
A nice watch for the money. I wish the backlight lit the whole face and not just the digital screen, the glow in the dark hour markings and hands just don't glow bright or long enough to be useful for more than a couple hours after dark. At least the digital screen will display time. Once fully charged, it stays charged for a really long time which is nice. My old Waveceptor had a crystal that stuck up above the bezel so it constantly picked up scratches, no worries with this one. The old band broke right where it connected to the watch body because it was made of plastic. This one looked like it was metal and wouldn't be a problem but it's just silver painted plastic so the band could break just like the old one after a while.

 "Very good timepiece." 2009-12-13
By James H. Foy (Minneapolis MN)
I really like this Casio Waveceptor. However, three things bug me: 1)The instructions say nothing about how to properly adjust the length of the wristband. I finally figured it out. 2)The "glow-in-the-dark" hands do not glow very long after dark and when you press the button to illuminate the dial, the light only illuminates the digital window, which may be set for day & date. Therefore you can't see the face and hands of the watch to get the time. 3)I don't like the fact that, if and when, I must replace the battery I must return the watch to Casio. I would think a simple battery replacement could be done at home.

But, I'm sure I'll get used to it.

 "Beware the plastic parts" 2009-12-05
By Laurence (San Jose, CA)
I am now on my 3rd one of these. I love the watch, as the solar face keeps the watch charged well, the radio-setting feature works well almost all the time (except when travelling overseas), the controls are reasonably intuitive, and it looks good (at first). Sadly, there is a bad flaw in the case design which makes me keep having to buy new ones every so often. The end of the watch where the stainless-steel band attaches, which LOOKS like it is stainless steel, is not really metal at all..it is actually grey plastic with a cheap silver paint on it. It looks excellent for a few months, and then it invariably starts peeling. On the first watch, I thought perhaps I just had a bad one, but the second one I bought, and now the third have all done the same thing. It is really a shame, because otherwise I really like everything about this watch. In case you are wondering, I'm an office worker, so it isn't like there is anything unusual about the way I treat the case...the paint just keeps coming off from normal wear from my shirt-sleeve. Bottom line: if you don't care what it looks like after a few months, this is a great watch, I have no complaints, but if you don't want to look like you are wearing an old, cheap, plastic-case watch, then avoid this model. I like it enough that I will probably buy another, and just treat it like a disposable, but then again as I type this I'm wondering if I should just go with a battery-powered WaveCeptor instead of paying extra for the solar feature, since the case never lasts past where the first battery would anyway, and those are about half the price of these...

 "Just be aware" 2009-04-14
By M. Huttinger (boise, id)
I bought one of these white Casio watches about 3 years ago. It's a great watch and love the atomic feature BUT I wish I had know the white color is just painted on. It rubs off and looks pretty bad when it does. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have worn it as a everyday watch and maybe it would have stayed looking nice longer. I called Casio customer service to ask them if all of their colored or white watches were just painted on finishes and yep, they are. Maybe someday they will make the housing and bands with color all the way through, just not there yet.

"solid performance - solid looks - great timepiece" 2009-12-07
By Walter Zamora (Montauk, NY)
I bought this watch with two objectives in mind: surfing and swim training with the watch. After looking and comparing many different G-shocks, as well as others from timex, nixon, freestyle, rip curl, etc., they just simply didn't compare when it came to pricing. This is a really solid watch with simple no frills functions. The velcro wristband is a huge plus for me due to it's great water resistance and is better suited to take on the damaging effects of saltwater and chlorine, as well as it's great ability to be thoroughly rinsed after use. When it came down to decision making on the purchase, I just couldn't pass up the years of trust and reputation that the G-shock brand has earned, specially when comparing to other brands that have way less years of performance under their belt, yet where 2-4 times as expensive. This watch is a great purchase.

"have had this watch for close to 10 years..." 2009-12-02
By Chuck (Ohio)
Have had this watch for close to 10 years, and let me tell ya, it is rugged. I am a professional firefighter, rope rescue/confined space tech/instructor and a rescue diver. This watch goes along for it all. I serves as a back-up to my dive computer and has been below 100ft! If you really want to secure it, buy an Australian watch strap for it, you will never lose it that way. This watch has been on my wrist absolutely all the time; bed, shower, fires, rescues, dives and has survived better than me. Only beef, if you need the battery replaced, and you use it in water (diving, swimming, etc.), you HAVE to send it back so they can replace the battery "at depth" in a recompression chamber. The vaccuum seals it when returned to ambient pressure. This cost at least $90.00US and I can get a new watch for less. I am buying another.

By Tony M. Nathanson
Mine arrived yesterday. Info is easy to read, simple to set, the band is very comfortable. Time will tell about the nylon band's durability. This is my first solar-powered watch. I was concerned about it losing a charge, but I left it on last night & this morning it's fine. The backlight is excellent & buttons are not difficult to operate. I'd rather the current time still be displayed while I'm using the stopwatch feature like my previous G-Shock. That's about the only criticism I have.
