"Baby G Jelly, charcoal and pink watch" 2009-06-21
By D. Nieto (Fullerton, CA United States)
This is the second watch like this I've purchased as a gift. Maybe the next one should be for myself since I love it so much. I own 5 jellies, two were gifts and three I purchased from Amazon because they have the BEST prices of any other website that I've found. I have also purchased three others as gifts. I will absolutely be buying Baby Gs from Amazon again...next one is for me!

"beep tones too high pitched/too quiet to hear well" 2009-02-22
By R. Fillman (Santa Cruz, CA)
Too bad, too because EVERYTHING else about this watch is superb. Too bad there is no option (searched the manual) for some way to set the tone to some lower pitched, or perhaps louder. We returned the watch for this reason. Younger? Have good ears? Then go for it.

"Excellent watch for the price" 2010-02-01
By L. Clevenger (Lewisburg, OH USA)
I wanted a watch that kept accurate time and was solar powered. This watch met those requirements. Set up was fast and easy. I have had no problems with linking up to check the time and keep it accurate. I gave it four stars because the dial hands are hard to see. The hands are silver with white accents and they blend with the silver dial which makes them hard to see at first glance. It does not glow in the dark so in low light this makes it even harder to see the hands. The white plastic band get dirty frequently and easily but will clean up with little effort. Overall I do like the watch and for the price it is a good buy.

"Great Watch- just what I wanted!" 2010-02-01
By Amazon Queen (San Jose, CA)
I looked long and hard before I narrowed down my choice to this watch. What sold me was the size, color, atomic features and solar powered! The watch looks very classy with the silver rim and white face. It came carefully packaged, and in very little time I had it synched for my time zone, (it came fully charged). There are many other features here, like checking other time zones, stopwatch, etc. as well (as suggested by the four outer buttons)

My only complaints are that the white hands on the white face are not always easy to see, they should have made with darker hands for a better contrast. Also, the back lighting isn't that great for seeing what time it is in the dark....Didn't think I'd like the band, but actually I like how it looks on, and am not going to change- plus it is super comfortable. Will update this review if anything changes- but so far, I think I have found my perfect watch!

 "Very cool watch!" 2010-01-09
By T. Bragg
This watch was a Christmas present for my wife -- not as romantic as jewelry, but more romantic than a kitchen appliance or a table saw. It's a very practical watch because it's rugged (while still looking good), and being solar powered means that the waterproofing is unlikely to be compromised by battery changing. We haven't really tested the atomic clock feature, although we think it's turned on and the watch keeps excellent time. The only suggestions we have for improvement would be to offer different color bands, and the white band material shows some possibility that it may discolor a very small amount. We will have to see how it stands up to daily use. Overall, it's a great watch, with a lot of features for the price and a clean, elegant look for a sports watch.

"Petite and classy with both solar and atomic time" 2009-12-25
By FlyingPolarBear (Fullerton, CA USA)
For a better product view I provided two images; one holding the watch in my hand, and the other in the Casio packaging comparing the size with my men's Breitling watch (click on "see all customer images"). I got this as a Christmas present for my mom so she wouldn't ever have to change the battery or adjust the time. With solar power and radio signal time adjustments, this Casio is completely maintenance free. She loves it and it looks very nice. It almost looks like a luxury watch if it wasn't for the white plastic wristband. I would have preferred a smaller leather band; if anyone knows whether this band can be swapped out with a different style please post a comment on my review. Someone commented on another review that they couldn't find the instructions, but actually a thorough instruction booklet comes in the box. When first taking it out of the package, simply select your nearest major city and then the watch automatically adjusts the time, and that's it. On the little digital display window you can choose to display the time, name of the day of the week, calendar date, or seconds. If it's dark, press another button to activate the backlight for 1 second. This also has the full featured functionality Casio is known for such as alarm and timer. I read on a discussion forum that this model was made exclusively for Amazon, so I guess that would explain why I can't find it on the Casio website. The solar cell is interesting because you won't see any typical looking solar cell, just a very nice almost-sparkling pearly gray face. This ladies watch is fun for those who like high tech convenience, and would be perfect if there were some way to change the wristband.

 "Great women's watch!" 2009-12-02
By B. LU (Idaho)
I just received this from Amazon and it will be a gift for my wife. The watch itself doesn't look very special but it is one of very few choices for women with solar and atomic features. And the size are small compared with most Casio watches for ladies. I think it is a keeper.

"Nice But Solar a Limitation" 2010-01-12
By Anthony Catalano (Boulder, CO)
I bought this to replace a less expensive version of a very similar, non-solar Casio watch. That watch failed after 1 year. The solar watch aspect I view as a limitation because it is best charged off wrist in a window, usually when I want to use it! The negative consequence of the limited power supply is a very, very weak alarm,-its barely audible. This is MUCH worse than it battery powered counterpart which I valued as a morning wake up call. Unfortunately that watch has a cheap (plastic) case whose metal coated finished looked good at first, but quickly disappeared, not to mention the watch continually reset itself.

 "Solar recharging impractical" 2010-01-07
By Peter M. Rankin
Solar recharging of watches like the WVM120 may work fine in Arizona but here in the northeast, the best we can do in the winter is cloudy day recharging. According to Casio, it is recommended that you charge your watch in a cloudy window for 48 minutes a day. I'm used to wearing my watch during the day and don't want to take it off for an hour every day to charge it. If you are in an office environment, it's even worse - you have to point your watch at the ceiling lights for 8 hours each day to keep it charged. How do you manage that??

It's necessary to keep the watch charged in the upper 2 of 5 levels or you start to lose functions. Should you have the misfortune of using the lamp too many times at night or have the watch in your sleeve for too many days, you could discharge below the upper levels. For a total recharge, even in Arizona, you have to put it on your picnic table outside for 6 days. Even worse, in our part of the country, it will take 47 days in a cloudy window to recharge. And forget about artificial light - you can't fully recharge the battery because it takes over a year to get a charge that only lasts 8 months.

Read the instruction book before you buy. I'd rather buy a 3 dollar battery every 2-3 years. I sent the watch back and am looking for a battery version.

"Nice watch, but terrible user interface" 2009-12-23
By Johannes L. H. Linkels
The watch case and band are beautiful and have a strong and sturdy look. The face is less beautiful and looks a lot better on the picture on Amazon.com. There are too many different fonts used for the text, and too many different colors, the outer ring, the solar area, the inner frame the LCD background, the LCD digits. It just doesn't match. But that is just my taste, other might think different, although it would have been a good thing to show a realistic picture of the watch.

The time sync function only works in certain areas of the world which is logical. However, connecting the auto-sync function to the time zone you are in is not logical. I would have preferred to set the sync function independent of my time zone. Geographic areas or the place were you live are often related with time zone, but not always.

The watch has 4 buttons which have different function in different modes of the watch. Unfortunately the legends next to the buttons are just for one mode, and as it seems, the least used one. The start/stop/lapse and reset buttons are not labeled and it is left to the imagination of the owner which button is for which function. Worse, my previous watch, a Casio Illuminator also hade these 4 buttons, but with different locations in stopwatch mode. VERY inconvenient when you try to record a time event and only discover that you pressed the wrong button again. Setting the alarm is impossible without the user manual in your hand.

Talking about the user manual. Everything is in there, right. But the size of the manual is not bigger than a stamp (about 1 x 1.5" or 25 x 36 mm) and consist of 80 pages in 4 points font size or so. Even if your eyes are good enough to read without a magnifier glass, you hardly can hold the booklet and turn the pages.

Last, the pips at the hour are only audible when you put the watch next to your ear or you are sitting is a totally silent room without airconditioning or computers. Those are not my ears, the old Casio Illuminator was about twice as loud. I fear that the alarm is as loud and therefor useless. I have not been able to try the alarm because without the user manual I can't use it, and I honestly can't find the microscopic sized booklet.

I rate this product with only 3 stars, not because it is a bad watch, but because the use interface is terrible, unusable without a manual and the manual in itself is unusable.

 "Nice watch, but..." 2009-12-16

 "almost perfect" 2009-12-03
By J. Ladd
This watch is the "ideal" watch for accurate care free time keeping. The automatic time up-date and the solar re-charge of the power is the combination that removes the care from using a time reporting device. The only negative would be for the person who wants an analog look for their watch. The quality and comfort of this model is high and it is easy to read and operate. It is a keeper after you make the selection.

 "A family favorite" 2010-01-17
By R. Cong-leton (East Orange,NJ)
Purchased one of these watches for my son-in-law for the Holidays of 2009, but

after examining the watch and setting the home city, he almost did not receive

it. The clarity of the display, feel on the wrist, backlight ( it is an illu-

minator ), ease of setting for personalization, were so much to my liking that

I ultimatly purchased two other g-shock atomic solars for myself. He did get

this watch, and likes it so much that he sometimes wears it to bed. He is im-

pressed with the solar and automic features, but the comfort of the watch on the

wrist, and its accuary, are the primary attractions for him. The eye appeal of

the classic design does not hurt the equation, either.

A second GW5600J-1 watch will be shipped out by me to my brother-in-law shortly,

and I am certain he too will be impressed by the features and personality of this

watch, if, of course, I can again convince myself to part with it.

 "My Favorite Watch" 2009-12-14
By Ryan D. (Michigan)
I received this watch as a gift approx. 2 months ago and I love it. I currently own 5 watches (Bulova, Fossil, Timex, Casio) and this one is by far my favorite. I wear it daily and it is very comfortable; not too big, not too small. The watch is very tough, looks tough, and the solar-atomic feature works great keeping the time exactly up to date. The display is easy to read and doesn't have a lot of clutter to distract from the simple design. I recommend this watch to anyone wanting a rugged, classic looking watch that functions flawlessly. And you can't beat the Amazon.com price.

"Hottest sports watch in 58 years (wish the alarm worked!!)" 2009-12-06
By MIKE EDWARDS (SPOKANE, WA)
Amazon offers these at the best price on the Planet.

Ya gotta love a watch that keeps perfect time (let's hear it for the guys at Ft. Collins who keep launching those satellite 'sync up' signals) and, of course, it runs forever on solar (or lightbulb) energy so I can see how much more yawn time I'll have to endure watching "The Proposal" simply by pushing the light button.

Also, this watch provides super-accurate, atomic time so quickly switching modes to NYC, I don't have to go through the agony of computing 3 additional hours in my head to see how much further Wall Street will collapse on any given day.

I can also do a loop with my lab, Caz, and make sure I'm back in 30 minutes in time to check the latest Law & Order rerun. It will even countdown on my coffee reheats with no problems!

My only problem with this watch is that YOU CAN'T HEAR THE GODDAM ALARM! Casio put it much more politically correct; "It may be the tone we use that you are not hearing." (Yeah, because the little blinking icon symbols are so much better!!) Casio admits that they HAVE had complaints that there is no sound to the beep on this style of watch." Translation? You're not tone deaf; you can't hear it because it's not as loud as an ant farting at 50 miles; so you're stuck w/the blinking icon. Casio has 5 alarm settings (including the snooze function)-- none of which are audible because the tone won't wake up Caz who barks at the wings of a hummingbird in Tampa.

Otherwise it's 5 stars!!
