Made for the rugged sea-farer, this Casio Pathfinder Triple Sensor men's digital watch (model SPW1000-2V) includes a built-in digital compass, thermometer, barometer, and depth gauge. It's also solar powered and offers wireless atomic clock updates. This radio-controlled watch receives a time calibration signal transmitted from Fort Collins, Colorado, and signal reception is possible within a radius of about 2,000 miles from the Fort Collins transmitter. You can choose to automatically receive this signal four times a day, or manually update the watch to the atomic clock.

And because it's solar-powered--charging in either sunlight or indoor light--you'll never have to deal with changing the battery. Light enters the watch through the sapphire crystal and dial, and hits a solar cell beneath the dial. Current is created and stored in the battery.

The digital compass displays 16 directions and has a 5-set memory capacity that captures direction, month, date, and measurements time data. You can predict changing weather patterns using the PathfinderÕs barometer. It takes readings every two hours, stores them automatically, and can graphically display the barometric pressure for the past 26 hours. It also offers a depth gauge to measure and record ranges from 0 to 80 meters (0 to 263 feet). You can change from meters to feet easily. The watch uses a system-specific nitrogen loading graph.

Timing functions include a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 60-minute measuring capacity with elapsed time, split time, and 1st/2nd place time modes, optional hourly signal, daily alarm, 12/24-hour format, and autocalendar (to 2039). Other features include a durable blue resin case and strap, scratch-resistant mineral crystal, AfterGlow LED electro-luminescent backlight, and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet).

"Great functionality and fair price" 2009-12-18
By Raj
First off, the watch is HUGE!! Case diameter is about 50 mm. For small wrists, it is quite big. For the price I think it's worth it. Barometer/Compass/Thermometer is helpful. Thermometer inaccurate when worn.

I bought this for the depth gauge. Have not tested it yet. Drawback is you cannot operate watch under water i.e. push any buttons. Rendering the compass useless in this situation. Depth gauge has to be set PRIOR to diving. It is never meant to replace any professional diving equipment/gauges.

Overall, for the recreational diver who dose not own there diving equipment and who does not dive on a regular basis this is a fun watch to have especially with all the additional features it has. No regrets on buying the watch.

"no altimeter!!! WHAT? there's a pressure sensor but no Altimeter, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!?" 2009-06-11
By Edom (santa rosa, ca)
This is an awesome watch. But one thing completely BAFFLES ME TO NO END - there's no altimeter! The watch already has a barometer, it's a matter of simple calculation - and you can convert from pressure to altitude, but the watch doesn't do it.... (?) RIDICULOUS!!! The only thing I can figure is that Casio wanted to sell you another watch for hiking... As it is, you'll have to walk around with a calculator or a cheat-sheet to convert the hPa to altitude... Irritates/baffles me... It'd be so easy to implement, given that all the sensors to do this are there... I swear CASIO marketing team did this just to drive me nuts...

(here you go, print this out, and swear at casio everytime you have to use it, because they decided not to build this simple relationship in)

"Casio Men's Sea Pathfinder Solar Atomic Watch #SPW1000-2V" 2009-01-21
By Scott Valentine (Seoul Korea)
Casio has done it again. It does absolutely everything (except complex dive calculations) you would want in a dive watch for recreational diving. I use is primarily for freediving. It is a wonder why it is not more widely available (I've never seen it in a dive shop) and used more. The only reason is it is eschewed by some is that they have been fooled into believing the more expensive watches are better because they are more expensive. These are the same people who pay $600 for Gucci bags.

 "The Everyday Adventure Watch" 2008-10-05
By Mike (Hawaii)
Nice multi-function watch for the everyday adventurer. Large display for easy reading. Watch holds a decent charge, even after a week in my drawer. Many useful features. Such as, barometer for forecasting weather changes. Compass for underwater and land navigation. Depth gauge that moniters and logs multiple dives. Has a neat world atomic clock receiver for TRUE times. Casio rates the watch for ONLY recreational swimming and snorkeling. But was designed to handle 100 meters or 300 ft. Hmmm... So far, have scuba down to 120 ft. a few times with no adverse affects on the watch. NOTE! NOT a professional diver watch! I wouldn't recommend going pass 100 ft. Must set functions to be used on surface before submersion. Otherwise, water might get pass the seals if any of the buttons are depressed while submerged.

"Great watch until the band breaks (then $60 to fix it)" 2009-12-18
By Wiseguy (Northern Illinois)
I have a similar SPF-60 watch that has the same type of band. It worked great for over 4 years. I wore it everywhere and it was a great watch - I loved it. Then walking down the hall at work the band broke off the band housing. Found out you just cannot put on a new band. Sending it in to Casio they charge $60 to fix. The band on this watch is the same as the SPF-60. If you look closely there is no easy way to take the band off or on. It breaks where the band housing meets the case. Many other stories out there with the same problem that happens anywhere between 1 year and over 4 years. Watch is too expensive to have a design flaw like this. It is possible every couple years you will be spending $60 to fix the band issue. If this is acceptable, this is an awesome watch.

By Chuck E. Castle (College Park, MD United States)
Once you figure out how to program long, lat and GMT it works fine. One for the buttons fell off and another cracked. Sad part is I don't wear watch mutch. Crappy Construction kills this watch for me, and should keep you from ordering.

 "NICE" 2009-06-24
By Carter Hargrave (Tulsa, OK USA)
Nice Watch. I just returned the regular pathfinder for this one. The regular one has the nylon band backed with some kind of leather or pleathor that will end up looking like three kinds of hell in a couple of months or if you get it wet or happen to sweat like a pig a few times. This band is rubber and looks cool. I collect diver watches of various kinds that span cost from this to the rediculous and this is a good quality watch. The size is not bad. I have very small wrists and it still looks good on me. While the face goes from one side of my wrist to the other it does not look like a giant hubcap like some watches do. It looks cool and does a bunch of crap I will never figure out. I just like the compass and hey it even tells time.

 "Great for the money" 2009-12-08
By S. Munson (North East Ohio)
I have had a different Casio style dive watch for about 15 years now (three different ones as they needed replacing). You know the one with with the LCD display at the bottom - I have had a gold faced one and several black faced ones. I love that watch. But I kept breaking them. The band would fall off the pins and it would happen only when I was standing over concrete. POW! The hands would come off the axle. As my eyes haves started to get worse because of age, I found that I didn't really need the digital display anymore - too small. Besides, everyone has that watch now. So I started looking for a different watch.

I came across this watch and really like the face. As others have mentioned, it has its failings. The crystal is beveled outwards which makes it prone to scratching. The crowns aren't protected by the casing like my other Casio. The bezel is difficult to turn and requires my finger nail to turn it. I wish the face was dark black vs the darker shade of gray that it is. Also, the date is difficult for ME to read unless I have my glasses on.

With all that said, it is a handsome watch and it is keeping great time. I have had more people comment about it than my previous Casio - probably because it just isn't that common of a watch. Haven't had any problems with it but I have only had it for about a month.

But with all the stuff I would change if I was making the watch, I quite childishly find myself looking to see what time it is even when I already know. I really like the look of this watch.

 "Fantastic watch!" 2009-12-03
By Naveen Karamchetti (Chicago, IL)
I got for this watch for thanksgiving, almost waited for a week to arrive.

A very elegant and good looking watch. I especially love the black dial.

It is well constructed with quality materials and workmanship. I use it as an everyday watch and love it.

Water resisitant, but dont wear it while having a bath or doing the dishes.

The dual LED acts a flash-light in dark places and to find things inside a car while in motion.

I am glad I got this watch at Amazon, instead of searching it in a store.

There have been several complaints about the strap etc. The fact being that the

strap is good and very comfortable. It is made out of hard rubber and feels soft and sturdy.

This is the best watch I ever owned in years.

Well worth my dollars.

 "Great Watch!" 2009-12-01
By Josh Itzoe
I bought this watch to replace a Seiko "Orange Monster" that got damaged. The Seiko was a great watch and the orange face was extremely eye-catching. However, I love this Casio, especially at 1/5 of the price of the Seiko! It looks sharp, runs well and was a great purchase. I originally considered buying a new band based on other reviews, but ultimately decided to wait and see how it turned out. I'm glad I did - the band was slightly uncomfortable for the first week or so but feels great now is not an issue. Highly recommend this watch.
