"Good watch, big, easy to use" 2009-11-30
By Miguel
I purchased this watch but ultimately returned it to seller.

Pro's: easy to read, nice alarm feature, easy to make adjustments, was exactly as it appears on the site.

Con's: for me personally I wish the watch was all black - I didn't really like the Red on the face, or the red button on the side. It would be cool is Casio made one of these that was all black but wasn't millitary/super dark.

If you are looking for a quality digital watch I think this would be good for you.

"Two Thumbs Up for G7900-1!" 2009-10-14
By Steven Maes (San Diego, CA USA)
This just arrived in the mail today and here are my observations:

It's a big watch but it doesn't feel like one. The cuffs on the inside of the band make this the most comfortable G-Shock I've ever owned - especially since I have a fairly small wrist. I had previously ordered the Gulfman because I wanted the Tide Graph but it just didn't fit right and it wasn't comfortable. After searching for another G-Shock with the Tide Graph I found this one (the G7900-1) and it's great. I like the fact that it has 5 alarms and a countdown timer in addition to all of the other features. The styling is nice and modern, it's easy to read, and the red button in the lower right side gives it a nice touch. The moon phase indicator is nice and large too.

 "Love this watch!!" 2009-12-16
By LD (Myrtle Beach, SC)
Love this watch, it has all the features that you could possibly want and more. I had no problems with the ordering process or delivery and for the price this watch is a great value. I had looked at several different types of G-SHOCK watches in local stores and they were all $90.00 or more. I am very happy I made this purchase, great watch, perfect size for me (ladies not to big, works great for me). No complaints!

 "alarm function a joke" 2009-11-01
By Gary M. Burris
The face is a little "busy" but I expected that with the G-Shock. What is most disappointing is the alarm function - it certainly can't be counted on to wake you up in the morning - it is very quiet. After I received the watch I called Casio customer service and inquired as to why this alarm is so much more quiet than two of my older casio watches. I was told it must be a battery problem because casio has not reduced the volume. So I returned the watch to Amazon and received a replacement - same near silent alarm on this one as well.

Do not recommend this watch if the alarm function is important to you. Otherwise, watch is ok.

 "Great Watch!" 2009-10-26
By L. Lutiis
This watch is an excellent cost/benefit relation. Very easy to operate and useful features. It is not as big as it looks in the photo. It combines the style of the analogic watch with the features of a digital watch. The only improvement to be made is the light: it is not enough to see the digital displays (an indigo light would be much better). But it is nothing that would make me change my mind, it is an excellent watch and I recommend it to people who want a beautiful, useful and sturdy sport watch.

 "Nice, if quirky" 2009-09-15
By T. Anschutz (Stoughton, WI, USA)
I picked this up to have a sturdy and reliable time piece I could use while exercising, working around the house or in the yard, or any other situation where I could use a sturdy wrist watch. The watch is very sturdy, and has a lot of nice features. It does not have a sweep second hand, instead relying on some of the LCD windows on the screen to tick off seconds. Setting the analog time is a bit cumbersome, but the rest of the watch's features are easily accessed and adjustable in much the same manner of nearly every other Casio watch.

The watch is great, looks better in real then in the picture. It's a little bit smaller too.

"Quite conventional and smart looking" 2010-01-25
By Derek (Sacramento, CA)
This is my third G-shock over time and one of two I've bought again recently. In fact I really missed the first one from 20 years ago. It went missing, but I still had years use with it. I don't think I'll ever go without a G-Shock wristwatch again. I made one previous review for the GW-6900. Now this is for the GW2500B-1A. I've had it for about six weeks.

I've quite happy to be wearing these types of watches again. One gets used to whatever he has to use. I've been wearing mostly Seikos in the last 10 years, and I like them very much. Could say many good things about Seikos too. But G-Shocks fill in some important gaps with watch use. In fact all of the G-shocks are tough, heavily water resistant, practical, and keep very good time. They all have a kind of manly look as well. In particular to this analog/digital beauty (and others with the GW naming) you have the added benefit of radio receiving(multi-band 6) for atomic clock based time, and solar recharging. I've seen pretty much routine resets on this based off the radio receiving with just a few details to take care for. You will feel good about setting clocks and other watches to this one without having to rely on telephone time or computer clocks. If you're like me you won't always have the computer on or with, you nor will you always want to use the phone or have a phone with you. Unless you live in a very hilly area or live at an extreme point in perhaps Maine or south Florida, you will probably have good reception as well, even with storms. It's actually a wonder to me. As for the Solar recharges, it cranks up to the highest level (high) from medium after perhaps two hours of close floresent bulb or good sunlight. Use your common sense here and mind the heating! It pays to make your estimates and give it 100% charging ASAP. Once you've done your bit there, you've got six months reserve. The sub dials take a little more power so the pure digitals would give you a little more time.

With regards to reading the time, the analog hands are pretty easy to see in all light, and have adequate illumination without it, even hours into the night. Yes, in the dark you can't really see the digital readout. But you wouldn't be about to see the digital numbers in the dark with anything else anyway without using the light. It's illumination light is a little bottomed on the watch but it does what you need. Also the digital numbers are of a standard kind of color that makes them pretty easy to read, understanding that they are smaller than normal. Since it is a mixed read watch (ana-digital) you have to expect this. Someone without his glasses who needs them might be not able to see them, I have to admit. My eyes are normal and I have no problems under varied light, honestly.

Lastly as to looks, this is really a fine looking watch. Unlike digitals in general which kind of look a little too sporty for going out, I feel perfectly respectable with this. (Yes I'll wear my alternate G-Shock too anyway since it still looks good.) It has an analog face and looks quite a lot more conventional (per my definition) than a big black or small black digital watch. It's also not all rubber since it has a large amount of metal in the frame. Thus so it's also somewhat smaller in width than the 6900 type frame.

I think it has few negatives and I highly recommend this G-shock watch, especially if you appreciate conventional looks and like analogs. It's a very versatile wristwatch.

 "Superb watch for $$" 2009-12-31
By Zuludigital
I bought the GW2500B-1A to replace the Swiss Tissot T-Touch 3000 (a more expensive timepiece). Since the US has changed it's DST, a lot of watches with world time functions, and with preset DST, are more than useless - they're confusing/frustrating. This problem alone made me look at watches that have Atomic Timekeeping. I was apprehensive about how well this time sync would work (I returned a clock because it could not sync at my house). I am happy to report the GW2500B-1A syncs every night while I sleep with the watch on my wrist - no holding it up to a window in Contra Costa or San Jose CA. The coolest feature about this watch is, like the Tissot, it will swap the main dial hands from you home time to the city you select as your 2d time zone - you see the main hands move to the correct time from say NYC to Madrid (and just do one button press to swap back to NYC when you return). Or you can have the small-right-dial's hand show the hour in Madrid while you keep NYC's time on the main dial and have the digital screens show DAY of Week, DATE and SECONDS. This is really nice for me as I keep China's timezone on the right when I'm working. The LCD can be seen clearly for me (I hear is is a problem for the other colored models in this series). The night light works great for looking at all the analog dials - it could be better for the LCD. Finally I have become a frequent user of timers and alarms on wristwatches for cooking and travel and these features work well on this watch.

 "GW2500B-1A Watch review" 2009-10-06
By David Davenport (florida)
I researched this watch extensively. I ordered it through Amazon as they provided the best price, including the whole deal! Shipping and all. shopemco was the vendor and they provided excellent service - all the way. I am very pleased with the watch. The 5 alarms are plenty and there is a countdown timer as well. I wanted a countdown timer that you could program in intervals of seconds, starting at zero. but this watch starts at one minute and goes in increments of minutes. So, you can count down one , or two, or three, etc minutes. This is fine and this feature works well. The alarm is loud and clear and there is even a snooze feature. The watch is primarily an analog watch with digial features in the background, which can be hidden by the moving hands. This can be difficult until it gets used to. I brought this watch as it is solar powered and it is atomic powered. Being solar, I will never have to buy another battery, like I did for my Timex, that I said, no battery- no more Timex - so I threw it away and replaced it with this watch. This watch has performed flawlessly for 31 days. It has not come off and is comfortable to wear. The styling is exactly what I was looking for - tough, rugged, sophisticated adventure, and just downright cool. Thank you to Amazon and shopemco - I will be a repeat customer!

"Many Features - Great Value" 2009-09-09
By Pete D. (Ventura, CA United States)
After a battery powered watch stopped working I decided to find an alternative and this solar powered watch caught my attention. I also have a kinetic self-charging watch which is nice but is heavy. This G-Shock watch is light and has several useful features. At first I noticed was there's no crown, but rather 4 buttons for set-up and adjust the watch. With that said there's a little bit of a learning curve to get the full use out of the watch. Also, the watch is bulky & thicker than I anticipated - fortunately it's fairly light. I've had the watch for almost a month and have been happy with it.

Suggestion: Rather than struggling with the tiny owners manual, visit the Casio web site and check out the online owners manual [.pdf file], which is much easier to read.

Pros: Light attractive design. Multiple features including solar recharging and auto-calibration. Great value for the price.

Cons: Poor night illumination, the time can be seen, but the LCD displays are hard to view, [should be back-lit].

The upper LCD has both large and very small acronyms - they shouldn't expect the user to have a magnifying glass handy to view the small acronyms.

Would I recommend this watch: Yes

 "good, but" 2009-09-05
By Jesse Cervantes (Fl)
As a Pilot and watch enthusiast/collector I can tell you this is a very good aviation watch, with many features that are very useful, all in a very attractive design, but it needs some minor improvements

1-they should incorporate a back light for the LCD, right now it doesn't have any kind of light for the LCD, my suggestion a cool red for the LCD's so that we can see whatever we select on those displays, as the light that it comes with at the 6 o'clock position when illuminates it actually blinds those LCD's, the dial light should remain but they should replace that light for a dial indiglo and make it "softer" and more adequate, may be of a cool blue or cool green color, to contrast with a future LCD back light without blinding the LCD as it does now the light that it has now is my biggest complaint and then again I'm afraid Timex has a patten on the indiglo

2-the countdown timer should be 24 hrs and not just limited to 60 min, I'm disappointed about the 60 min countdown timer limitation on the current model, many casio cheaper model watches come with a 24 Hr countdown, I don't see why they would limit this one to just 60 min

3-add more cities, my suggestion at least 100 cities just like you have on one of the data bank models, although the ones that are programed now are adequate

4-make the numbers displayed on the left lower LCD as big as the ones displayed on the lower right LCD which displays the seconds

5-the alarm sound should be of higher decibels (louder, a lot louder) since this watch is supposed to be used in high noise environments like airplanes, and noisy airports

6-all of these alarms should be interchangeable between local and UTC or any other city selected on world time without having to change the home town time or T1 as it is right now

7-It would also be nice if they incorporate a data bank even if it''s just a 30 page, that would be fantastic, but I''m not sure if this is wishful thinking on my part, and if it''s too much technology to pack in a little watch

8-the right analog dial should only move in whole numbers since you can always see the minutes on the bigger hands of the watch, sometimes it's confusing especially in low light conditions when it's in between times, ( I.E 8:45 ) and I would also opt for a more classical lay out of the times on the 3 o'clock dial with 12,3,6,9 instead of 12,4,8 as it is right now, I think it would be more intuitive and easier to read but that just may be my personal preference and it's not a big deal

Over all it''s a great watch for the money, but I''d like to see some of those design improvements in the near future and I think with those this model would sale even more than what it probably does right now. would I recommend this watch, Yes
