"Overall Great, One Small Nuisance" 2009-12-19
By willydigger (USA)
The positive reviews already written have been very helpful with the initial setup. Coming from a Pathfinder digital, the use of beeps and hand movement was a little difficult to get used to. Once you get past the initial set up, the watch preforms well.

The subdials add a little style and the overall appearance of the watch is outstanding. The main factors for my purchase was the COUNTDOWN TIMER, PERPETUAL CALENDAR, and analog design. It has the ATOMIC and SOLAR too (which are nice), but they are more of an extra to my needs. Being on the East Coast, the ATOMIC feature is hit or miss. Another plus is the weight of the watch. It is heavy which is my preference. It is also all steel from case to bracelet.

The biggest flaw in my eyes is the delay between functions. Each dial needs to reset to a default position. Specifically the right subdial. For example in TIME mode, the right subdial acts as GMT/UTC time. For the STOPWATCH, COUNTDOWN TIMER, and ALARM it acts as the settings. So to go from TIME mode to COUNTDOWN TIMER mode, you have to wait for the minute hand of the right subdial to rotate until is finds the 12 o'clock position. While this only takes a few seconds, it is annoying. The only reason this watch doesn't get 5 stars.

There is no auto LED backlight. It has only the luminescent paint.

Also I purchased the watch at a Sears in Baltimore for $215.99 (12/09).

UPDATE ON SET UP:

I tried the manual sync the other night and had a lot of difficulty. It stems from trying unsuccessfully to setup the watch. The manual of the watch is a little vague with the order of steps for setup. Below is a simplified setup for new users.

Step-Title-Manual page number-(comments)

1. Adjusting the Home Position-E59 (When I got the watch the hands were misaligned. They need to be set first!! Otherwise the home city you think is NYC will be something completely different.)

2. Configure Home City-E34 (When the manual says to press "for about 5 seconds" wait for the double beep.)

3. Manual Receive-E26 (When the manual says to press "for about 2 seconds" wait for the single beep. When I first tried to sync it would only go to the "Y"/"N" indicator. When I check the home city it was set for UTC (because the hands were off during the initial setup). Once corrected to NYC, the watch acted normally.)

"I Love IT! Great watch with a slight learning curve." 2009-10-19
By J. B. Guzman (TX)
First off I didn't buy this from Amazon but found it at Kohls for 60% off the retail price so I walked out with an awesome deal. Yes it's true that this is not the most user friendly watch to set and the manual is a bit small. But just spend some time and "try" to figure it out and you'll eventually get it.

I would advise anyone who buys this watch to perform the following first:

Go to page 59 of the manual and follow the procedure for "Adjusting the Home Positions". This will calibrate each of the hands and the dials to the 12oclock or it's initial position. The hands on my watch were a bit off, the cal procedure fixed this.

Another good point to note which the manual does not.

While configuring the Home City Setting or doing any manual time adjustments the manual calls to depress the A botton for 5 seconds. They should have said depress the A botton for 5 seconds or until you hear a "double beep". I kept depressing until I heard a single beep which does nothing to help set the time or city.

I really love this thing, it looks sharp, not too big, good weight, solar powered, atomic time keeping, alarm, stopwatch, countdown, world time. Lots of bang for the buck especially at the price I paid for it. Potential buyers don't be discouraged, it's very nice, and for those who like a little challenge there's nothing not to like about it.

 "I am dissapointed" 2009-08-13
By C. Graveley (D.R)
First of all, the led lights aren't what they described. They don't exist. Only when I opened the case and read the manual, was when I discovered that the watch doesn't work in my country, so I had to program it manually with lot of effort, because it is an unfriendly watch. I am very dissapointed, because you should advice in which countries this kind of items work and in which doesn't, so other customers won't have the same experience that I had. I bought this watch because I know the quality that this brand has, I have more Casio watches, but the thruth is that this one didn't fullfield my expectations.

"Casio did a poor job in serving its customer" 2009-08-08
By R. Ong (Sunnyvale, CA United States)
First of all, I had no problem with the vendor who sold me this watch. I received the merchandise in two days and it is a brand new watch, as promised. I am happy with my shopping experience.

However, the Casio Corporation did a poor job in delivering a satisfying customer experience. I saw this watch while I was traveling on United Airline and the full page ad in the Skymall magazine caught my eyes. The watch looks astonishing. It promises a lot of functions: dual time, solar, alarm, atomic synchronization, water proof, etc. For someone who travels a lot and has a need to keep the track of time in different time zone, this watch offers an excellent balance between sophisticated look and functionalities. However, after I opened the package, I found a user manual that is 2 inch in size. The print is so small you need a magnifying glass to read it. And I had to down load the user manual from the Casio web site. Then I found out that the programming this watch is extremely difficult. The function often doesn't work. And the manual offers little clue as to how to fix the problems. I can't believe Casio would design such a complicate watch and did such a poor job in helping its customer to use it. Whoever puts together the user manual should be shot!! Don't buy this watch unless you are willing to spend many hours to try to program it. I am very disappointed with Casio and wish everyone will complain to them to fix this problem.
