"Excellent watch and a great price." 2009-10-21
By Julius Kovatch (Roseville, California USA)
I have many watches and this is my everyday watch alternating with the light grey color dial model since I got one of each. I do not understand some people complaining about how difficult to use it and they have to carry the manual with them. I am retired, over 65 and do not have any problem to remember all the basic functions I need to use when I am on a trip. All in all it is a very nice looking watch, very accurate and an excellent value for the money buying it from a first class place and one of the most reliable source Amazon.com.

Highly recommend it to anybody who is looking for a good loking watch at a very reasonable price for everyday use.

"Great Buy For Less Than $25" 2009-10-11
By Jeffery H. Reynolds (Dallas, TX)
I bought the watch as I wanted an inexpensive casual watch with a metal band. I liked the picture of the watch so I ordered it.

I like it.

I also bought another casio watch with this one that has the same guts.

As with the other one, the crystal does scratch easily so don't go banging this thing against walls. Also, the backlight doesn't do much good.

But... all in all, I like this lightweight watch.

I rate it only with 3 stars but don't let that discourage you. It's a good time piece.

"Good watch for the price -- a compromise on form and function" 2009-09-30
By tylernt
I have been a big fan of Casio Telememo watches for some time and have owned several. This particular model represents a balance between features and looks; on the upside, it has the fancy Casio features you expect, plus it looks good. On the downside, the features are a little less convenient than on other Casios.

-Looks

Many have complained about the color being closer to purple. I disagree -- it's indeed a very dark and muted grayish blue, but I would not call it purple. The silver band, dark gray accents, and blue and gray-blue dial work well together and is the main reason I chose this over other Casio models.

The analog face is easy to read in the daytime, but at night the yellow light only weakly illuminates the analog hands (Timex's Indiglo puts it to shame) and it doesn't light the digital LCD display at all. Truth be told, though, even on other Telememo watches the backlight goes out when pressing buttons in the Telememo and other features, so really the main thing you lose here is the ability to see the date in the dark.

-Features

The Telememo function is here but is definitely a poor implementation. Scrolling through the database, you see only names, not numbers. You have to press the SET button (which is hard to remember) to see the number, and even then you don't see the whole number -- it is scrolled by slowly only 5 digits at a time. Still useful if you're stuck somewhere without your cell phone, though.

Unlike some other Casios, you cannot set a date on the two alarms, only a time.

The World Time, stopwatch, and countdown timer function as usual.

Turning DST (Daylight Saving Time) on and off for the digital portion is relatively easy, but for the analog portion it's slow and painful in the fall as you have to advance the hands around the dial 11 hours (Casio should really have linked the digital and analog clocks together!). Similarly, setting the analog hands initially also required a look in the book to realize the "H-S" mode is the "Hand Set" mode.

-Summary

Casio had to compromise on some features (light, Telememo) to squeeze them into an analog watch, so the user experience is not as polished as it is on other Casio models. Still, if you want something a little more stylish and a little less geeky than a full-digital Casio Telememo, this is a good choice, especially considering the low price.

-Long-term Update

After about 6 months of ownership and daily wear, it's holding up ok. Both the plastic face and the plastic bezel have acquired scratches, so durability is not impressive... but then again, what do you expect from an inexpensive watch.

 "disappointed in this watch" 2010-01-27

Received this watch as a gift for bday. Ordered Casio G Force watch for my husband, it is really great, and looked forward to this watch. There are two metal bands on the face of the watch, difficult to see in the photo of watch, that obstruct easy viewing and the watch band is shiny black like patenleather. Sadly doesnt work for me as a Fire Fighter. Cant see face of watch easily.

My wife is very particular, and she seldom if ever wears a watch. This g-shock

was given to her for a gift during the holidays, and she wears it everyday. She

owns several other watches, all much more expensive, but this is the only one worn

on a daily basis. She has told me that it is comfortable, accurate, and rugged.

In the final analysis, those are the ideal features of a wristwatch.

"Great Watch. Does everything it promises." 2010-02-23
By AZ Tech Geek
I purchased this Casio GWM5600-1CR watch from Amazon (via JustCalculators - the seller) about a month ago. It arrived quickly - in just 3 days (with "Standard" shipping). It arrived undamaged and fully charged. It was very easy to set the date, time, etc following the clear instructions in the manual.

It was easy to set the time via the atomic clock in Colorado. The correct day & time was accomplished on the first try (took only about a minute). It has kept perfect time ever since (it displays the exact same time, to the second, as my 2 other atomic clocks I already own). Even when I wear it to bed at night!

The watch is lightweight and its thin design sits nicely on my wrist without any bulk (as compared to the Casio MudMan watch I also own which is very big & bulky). The solar cell stays in the "High" (full) charge mode almost all the time. Sometimes it will drop to "Medium" overnight, but in less than the time it takes to drink 1/2 cup of coffee while it sits exposed to the sun, the charge will quickly return to "High" (full) charge.

I wore it on my recent 6-day vacation in Mazatlan, Mexico. Swam with it in the ocean & the pool with no problems. When I returned home, it still matched the same time (to the second) as my 2 other atomic-synced clocks at home. It's been a week since I returned from sunny Mexico and the solar cell has stayed at "High" (full) charge all the time (even overnight).

No one has really mentioned the "Auto" light feature which I think is great. When it's dark (at night or in a dark room), all you have to do is raise your wrist and tilt it slightly to see it and the auto-light comes on (brightly) for about 2 seconds so you can see the time, date, etc on the face. No need for an extra hand to push a button to light up the face. Great feature.

I would highly recommend this watch to anyone who has a "thing" for accurate time and easy "set & forget" function.

"Does it all just right" 2010-02-19
By R. Cong-leton (East Orange,NJ)
Have purchased other Casio digital and analong watches, both as gifts and for my

own use ( though my two sons have claimed most for themselves ), and have found

that this particular watch does everything just right. Syncronizing with the atom-

ic time signal from Colorado occurs everynight; the solar cells have the storage

battery on a constant high; the strap, after being worn for a few days conforms to

the wrist and becomes truly comfortable. The electroluminesent backlight is bright

enough to tell the time without blinding you, and the thickness of the timepeice

itself is not overly great, fitting under long-sleeve shirts without problems or

tightness. The digital readout of time is well displayed, with the characters

being neither too small nor large.

The most important feature of all , however, is accuracy of time. To the second,

it's there whenever needed, with an eight month power reserve when not exposed

to any light to recharge the storage battery.

Easily, then, this watch does it all, very well, very accurately, and it

does it just right.

I've seen this watch advertised elsewhere as a ladies watch, so I took a chance and ordered it. It is definitely a ladies watch, or one for a very small man. Nice watch. Love the atomic feature. I will never have to think about accuracy again. The price here was excellent and far below what I found in a department store. Only negative is the strap retainer--strap keeps slipping out of the retainer.

 "GREAT VALUE" 2010-03-16
By Louis T. Girdler (Sierra Vista)
The Casio WVM120J-1 is probably the best pure value in digital watches -- and I've owned dozens of digital watches. How Casio can produce a quality SOLAR-ATOMIC watch with 100 meter WR, mineral crystal lens, and every function you can possibly use (except for ABC watches) is simply beyond me. The watch is "unisex" in size and should be considered by both genders -- as well as older children who will not subject it to severe abuse. The band is simple and light, but appears to be substantial enough to last for many years. I didn't need another watch (as my wife will attest) but at this price, I couldn't resist. It's simple on the outside and complex on the inside. It's so light you simply don't know you're wearing it. The button functions have a solid feel and provide an audible feedback tone. The window with the various displays is smallish, but very acceptable. This watch is not pretentious. I would prefer if ALL of the expose stainless steel had the satin finish of the bezel, but the highly polished elements are acceptable. It is elegant in its simplicity and functionality. It's a MUST BUY!

If you buy a watch for its functionality and not as a status symbol or piece of jewelery, this atomic watch is the way to go. I have had 3 atomic watches so far and they keep getting better all the time. Just spend a little time with the instructions (your choice of 100 languages :-), just kidding). And you'll have completely accurate time keeping on your wrist. The Rolex people should be ashamed they can't be this accurate for $5,000 let alone under $50!

"Comparison of G-Shock to the Nike Typhoon Watersport" 2010-03-04
By J. Herrmann (San Francisco Bay Area)
I have both the G-Shock and Nike Typhoon Watersport(NTW). I need a tide watch because I boat in an area that only allows you in the water two hours before, and after high tide.

I've been using the NTW for ten years and it is perfect for the task of telling you the current days, high and low tides, and giving you the tide forecast of any day in the future. It is programmed for 180 beaches spanning the Earth. In the USA these match the USA beaches used as references for tide correction data.

If the reading you get does not match exactly the hard copy tide tables for the day, it is always within minutes. The watch also has all the std. features of any generic sport watch.

Now for the Casio. I bought this watch because I lead full moon rising, early evening hikes in my local state park. (Mt.Tamalpais SP in Marin Cty., CA.) The Casio also gives crude tide info when compared to the NTW, as well as the moonrise time. It also provides sunrise/sunset times.

I couldn't rely on it for the exactness required for tide predictions in light of the dynamic nature of the tides.

As far as Moon, rise and set, Sun rise and set, these are different. For instance you only need the fullest moonrise time once a month and sun times change gradually.

So in comparison to the NWS I have to give the Casio one star. But if it were the only choice there was, I would rate it higher.

I bought by first NTW at the mall, cheap watch store. After that I found them available regularly on Ebay. If you need daily tide information for work or recreation get one these for under a $100.00.

"A good watch for the outdoors type person" 2009-12-26

The watch is what I expected. Alway durable and reliable. I have owned many Casio G-Shock watches in the past. I am rough with my watches since I work outdoors. It is also convenient to have a tide table display on the watch. I rely on the tide table for catching the best tide for surfing some of the local spots in San Diego. The delivery was on time and Amazon is a company. I have had some bad experiences with other companies ordering online. For example: Advertising a product and then finding out a week later that they cannot deliver the product because they are all out of them. The only negative I can say about the watch is it needs to have the digital display of the time and date a little larger.

Thanks Amazon

This is a feature packed watch that looks great too. It has a very readable dial and the value added stuff (i.e. everything other than the actual time) is displayed in smaller inner dials. It claims to not require exposure to light for 7 months - although I haven't tested this claim myself, nor do I plan to. It's lightweight and fits snugly on my wrist.

"Jumping on the G Shock bandwagon" 2009-11-24
By K-Royt Jam (Chicago, IL USA)
I've had my G Shock AWG100R-1ACR for about a week now, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

This watch has style + really cool functionality. The atomic time is not a gimmick. It actually works!

After taking the watch out of the box and setting up my home city, the watch hands started adjusting themselves to my local time within a couple of minutes. Very cool.

The combination of analog + digital displays makes for a really cool looking watch.

I've yet to really dig in and test all the features of this watch, but with some help from the manual, I'll get there soon.

The only slight negative is that it's hard to see the time in the dark without using the back-light, but I might need to configure some settings to take of that problem.

I'll be travelling with this timepiece soon, so we'll see how it handles the rigors of the road. But for now, my Swiss Army Maverick II has taken a backseat to the G, and at a 1/3 of the price.

I was blown away with the Casio selections up to the high dollar range.

Reading the only review I figured it was time to order something to replace

my black sports watch. In fact I donated three old watches, two of them Casio to

the Goodwill box. This watch has everything I need as well as sport/casual dress

appearance and a never change the battery plus radio controlled. With a two day delivery for less than nine dollars.............. I'm stoked!!!!

Thx, Amazon.

 "Ultimate Watch" 2009-02-19
By dasn0wman (Brooklyn, NY United States)
If you want a watch that has everything, this is it. My previous ultimate watch is the Citizen Skyhawk Titanium. My Citizen has everything this watch has - atomic timekeeping (so you never have to adjust your watch - how cool is that?), solar-powered (so you never have to change the battery - save $$$), standard functions such as countdown, chronograph, day/date, alarm, and then additional cool functions such as world time and back light (to see in the dark). But what sets this watch apart is the design and when I saw it in the store, I knew I have to get it. First of all, it has an analog face - the way a watch you look. None of that digital number face, its ugly. This one has a nice gold interior but you can get one with silver color which is then encased in protective hard plastic. Kind of blending of a formal watch and a sports watch - pretty cool design. The one thing you definitely can't do with the Citizen is throw it around and drop it and still have it working with no scratches. Lastly, it may be isolated or not, but it took me days for my Citizen to pick up the atomic signals and when it came time to change daylight savings time, it took a while for it to adjust as well. I took this watch out of the box and immediately the hands started moving frantically until it finds the correct time. Oh, I almost forget. The Citizen costs over 4x as much as this watch.

"Best watch for the money." 2010-03-13
By Howard Burch (Venice, Florida)
I bought this watch as an everyday watch because the band on my old one ($90.00) broke after two years. For the super low price of this Casio I can't go wrong. It's got great features and is light and well made.

This watch model # W71 is hard to find in stores, but Amason sure enough had it and for a fabulous price. Theis watch has all the features you will ever need and it holds up to all kinds of abuse. Put it on and forget about it , go swimming, diving or what ever. It's just a great watch. The battery life is about 5 years. Plus it automatically changes to the proper date if forsay Feb has 28 days, it knows that !! One smart watch. I love it.

 "Great watch!" 2010-02-26
By A. Eberts (Boise, ID United States)
Although it has been a while since I had a wrist watch, I'm so glad I bought this as my first after years of not having one. I wasn't into getting anything fancy and expensive like solar powered that re-adjusts the time from a satellite some where. I just wanted something simple with a few options on it like an alarm, stopwatch, dual time, it also has a nice timer on it too. I love the fact that it has the day, the day of the week, and the month all on the face. Besides, I remember having these same style watches or something like it when I was 13 & younger. They were called smart watches back then...I thought they were so cool, and was obsessed with all the little functions that had. At the time, they were at least 60 or 70 dollars. Years later, they are only $15 bucks (plus shipping which really puts it to about $22). I noticed the newer modeled watches are rounder in shape and are really huge. I didn't want such a bulky watch, so I went with this model. The round shape to the new modeled watches looks ugly to me too, I don't know why. A few reviewers said this watch looks cheap, which I don't agree with. It doesn't look like you bought it out of a vending machine, but it also doesn't look like you bought it for 200 bucks either. More over I think that the watches with plastic buttons truly look cheap, so that's why I buy ones with metal buttons. Plus if I remember right, plastic buttons break a little easier. I have a physical job, and it holds up great against being bumped up against metal things sometimes. I get a lot of water on it too from hand washing which hasn't phased it. I'm so glad they still make these classic watches, and will continue to buy them for years to come if hopefully casio decides to keep them around.

Simple, inexpensive watch with alarm and stopwatch capabilities. My previous one lasted over 22 years. The battery lasts about 7 years. Hey, way better than carrying a sundial.

 "Good value" 2010-01-22
By nb9001 (Vallejo, CA United States)
I got this as a backup for my G-shock DW9052, which reviews say might suddenly die at any time. On a cost basis alone I can't fault this watch for anything. All the functions I need are there: 12/24 hour time, stopwatch, alarm, backlight, calendar, and sufficient water resistance. The battery will last 2 or 3 times longer than same in my G-shock and in some ways this is a more practical watch. My issues with it are a matter of personal preference. First, I'm now used to the big manly DW9052 and this watch is neither. Admittedly the DW9052 is large and watches have gotten bigger over the years, but the band on the W71 tapers to a half inch which seems unnecessarily small. There are some advantages to the small size, e.g. it is light and will easily fit under a shirt sleeve. Second, it is unchanged since the mid 80s when it came out and the flat square appearance looks dated and cheap. If you're a bastion of common sense who can walk proudly into a conference room wearing a tiny cheap watch, then congratulations on your self-confidence and that should be no concern. Any watch that costs more than 40 bucks is just a fashion statement, right? Finally, it gains about 15 seconds per month. That doesn't seem like much, but it's a lot compared to the DW9052.

 "Good Watch, Cool Features" 2009-10-23
By NILADRI MUKHERJEE (NEW JERSEY, USA)
This is a nice & cool watch. like any other Casio watch it gives accurate time. The auto time sync feature is really cool & it works perfectly. But I had hard time setting it up to work for the first time. It syncs with the atomic time only in the mid night & my watch did it in the third night :). There after it does it automatically I do not monitor it any more.

 "Alarm Sound is useless" 2009-09-15
By G. Herron (California, USA)
Casio has been my favorite watch since they started making them. I've had them most of my life. However, it seems that all the one's coming out now have such a low sound on the alarms or for chimes for on the hour is useless. You would have to have the thing next to your ear to hear it. If you were asleep, forget it. I love everything else about their new line. Everything works great but that. Too bad as it was the real deal breaker.
